Clinical and Statistical Analysis of Cesarean Section



Abstract
This is the clinical and statistical analysis of 1, 314 cesarean deliveries performed at¢¥Chung-Ang University College of Medicine Hospital from January, 1974 to December, 1985.
The -results were as follows:
1. The frequency of cesarean delivery has increased from 19. 3 percent in 1974 to 37. 8 percent in 1985. The overall cesarean delivery rate was 21. 1%.
2. In nulliparous women, the indications for primary cesarean delivery were cephalopelvic disproportion
(47.3%), malpresentation (21.1%) and fetal distress (6.0/00/). In multiparous women, those were
malpresentation (26.2/00/), cephalopelvic disproportion (18.2%) and placenta previa (12.Oio¢¥):
3. The indications for repeating cesarean delivery were previous cearean section (91.5%), cephalopelvic
disproportion (2.8%) and malpresentation (2.2%).
4. More than half of the mothers were between 2529 years-of age (55.5%).
5. Approximately 83.2% of total cesarean deliveries were performed between 38 and 43 weeks of gestational periods.
6. The weight of newborn infants was distributed mainly 3, 000^3, 499 g. 46. 0% of the all deliveries. were noted in that group.
7. The types of uterine incision were lower segment transverse incision (98.6%).
8. Approximately 98. 1% of all cesarean deliveries were performed under general anesthesia.
9. Of 423 combined operations, tubal ligation plus appendectomy (38.5%), only tubal ligation (26.5%) and only appendectomy (25.8%) were performed.
10. The perinatal mortality rate was 14. 1 and maternal mortality rate was zero.
